Job Description :

A. Policies and Procedures

1. Assists in establishing, implementing and administering Unit Policies and Procedures.

2. Ensures established Unit Policies and Procedures, Objectives, Quality Assurance programmes, safety, environmental and infection control standards are adhered to.

3. Interprets Unit Policies and Procedures to all new staff.

B. Operational Issues

1. Maintains harmonious working relationships both within the unit with Medical Staff and Ancillary department within the hospital in coordinating customer’s total needs.

2. Directs activities of the assigned area and ensure high quality patient care is maintained.

3. Provides direct patient care, evaluates outcomes and consults attending Physician, Gastroenterologist or Surgeon as and when required.

4. Monitors medical condition of patients and reports changes to the respective Medical Staff.

5. Prepares and assists Gastroenterologist or Physicians with procedures.

6. Performs and ensures staff nurses are competent in IV cannulation and venipuncture.

7. Assists Medical Staff, patients and their families as and when needed in times of stress or crisis.

8. Provides professional nursing care and advice patients (and their relatives) in techniques and methods of home care after discharge.

9. Answers enquiries, telephone consultations and direct customers to the respective Medical Staff as requested.

10. Ensures Infection Control Policy is adhered to by having a monthly Infection Control unit meeting.

11. Liaises with other departments to handle emergencies such as Code Blue, Code White and Code Yellow.

C. Training

1. Provides orientation and training for all new staff to job requirements, equipment maintenance and unit personnel.

2. Participates in the clinical training programs for students from the Academy of Nursing and Health Sciences.

3. Motivates personnel of the unit so as to maximize their job satisfaction and personal growth for job retention.

D. Customer Service

1. Needs staff to achieve for excellent customer service by adhering to core values and professional standards.

2. Timely handling of all customer’s complaints, investigates, takes action and follow-up to ensure that complaints have been handled in a satisfactory manner.

E. Inventory Control

1. Ensures established inventory standards for medicines, solutions and supplies are maintained and all usage accurately captured in HMIS system.

2. Ensures established inventory of CSSD/ MSSU par level and weekly pharmacy floor stock are being carried out in the MCC system

F. General Maintenance

1. Ensures proper functioning of all equipment and coordinates with Bio-Medical personnel and vendor’s technical support personnel in the management of the equipment.

2. Ensures maintenances of the endoscopic equipment in its functional condition inclusive of cleaning, proper storage and sterilization where required.

3. Ensures unit facilities, equipment, supplies and materials are maintained and kept in an optimal condition.

G. Administrative

1. Develops yearly Department Goals and Objectives in line with key business objectives of the hospital.

2. Prepares the capital equipment budget, evaluates equipment and is responsible for the preparation and submission of Capital Expenditure Request (CER) for approval.

3. Prepares, reviews and monitors the operating budget to ensure the department is managed in a cost effective way.

4. Maintains required unit records, reports and statistics for administrative purposes and budget preparation.

5. Prepares monthly unit reports, reviews and monitors the operating budget to ensure the department is managed in a cost effective way.

6. Prepares written documentation and report as required by the profession and the department.

7. Organizes duty roster in the MyHR and adjust staffing to ensure adequate coverage for the unit.

8. Prepares work schedules, assigns personnel, evaluates work performance and makes recommendations for personnel action.

9. Accountable for discretionary use of overtime.10. Participates in interviewing prospective employees and submits the recommendations for hiring.

11. Compiles and submit weekly staff worked hours per patient day (WHPPD) to Nursing Administration to ensure efficient management of manpower in the unit.

12. Carries out evaluation of work performance and counseling of unit staff to promote self improvement.

13. Responsible for staff welfare and act as a counselor for staff problems.

14. Attends all Management Department meeting and participates in various committees and task force meetings.

15. Conducts unit meetings to allow dissemination of information and provide a platform for discussion and input from staff.

16. Ensures Quality Indicators are being monitored, root cause identified and actions taken to rectify and progressively improve on it.

17. Conducts quarterly Endoscopy Clinical Meeting with the unit Gastroenterologists.

18. Performs any other related duties as assigned by the Senior Nursing Administration team.

19. Ensure all incident or near miss incident that occurred in the unit are reported in the Risk Management Reporting system (Riskman). Ensure that investigations, action plan and follow up on the incident are done timely.
