1. Infection Control

• Recommends short- and long-term plan relating to Infection Control Practices, working in close liaison with the Infection Control

  Committee, Medical and Nursing Staff and Administration.

• Implements Infection Control Policies and Procedures by advising and supporting affected departments.

• Monitors compliance with Infection Control guidelines by making adhoc checks in the clinical areas.

• Monitors, tracks, and analyzes incident rates on Infection Control related issues and recommends preventive measures.

• Liaises with Health Records Management in the notification of Communicable diseases as per MOH requirement.

• Trains, educates, and assists Infection Control Link Nurses in their job scope, regarding Infection Control issues at the unit level.

• Counsels exposed healthcare workers on Needlestick/ Sharp Injury Prevention to prevent future occurrence.

• Liaise closely with Infection Control Committee members from Microbiology laboratory and Pharmacy on Antibiogram and Antibiotic usage.

  2. Surveillance

• Conducts hospital-wide surveillance to ensure that the clinical areas are adhering to infection control protocols and recommends corrective measures as required.

• Implements a continuous evaluation system to assess, monitor and maintain unit staffs’ adherence to established Infection Control Practices.

  Policies and Procedures

• Assists in establishing, implementing and administering Hospital- wide Policies and Procedures in accordance with JCI, HICMR and MSQH Prevention of Infection Control Standards.

• Ensure established Policies and Procedures, Objectives, Quality Assurance programs, and Infection Control standards are adhered to.

• Cascades hospital Policies and Procedures related to Infection Control to new staff via General Orientation program.

• Conducts unit environment surveillance for compliance with Policies, Procedures, regulations and standards and takes corrective action when non-compliance occurs.

• Plans and implements Infection Control Programs for SJMC.

• Updates and sets policies and procedures in accordance to changing

  trends in Infection Control Practices.

4. Training

• Participates and conducts clinical in-service training to students from the Academy of Nursing and Health Sciences and other hospital staff in areas of Infection Control.

• Participates in general orientation of new staff of hospital.

Requirement

• Develops training programs for Infection Control Link Nurses and Link Personnel to enhance their knowledge and skills pertaining to infection control issues.

5. Administrative

• Collates reports, consolidates census/ statistics, and analyze data on Healthcare Associated Infection, Needle Stick Injury and other Infection Control related data for submission to her immediate reporting superior for further action and reporting to Statutory Authorities.

• Compiles and maintains relevant documentation, records, and reports for inspection by the appropriate authorities, both internal and external auditors.

• Acts as a liaison with external bodies such as the Statutory Bodies and Government Agencies.

• Coordinates Infection Control Committee meetings and acts as a Secretary for the Infection Control Committee.

• Chairs the Infection Control Link Nurse/ Personnel Meeting monthly.

• Participates in Environment, Safety and Health Committee meetings as Technical Committee.

• Prepares written documentation and report as required by the profession and the department.

• Participates in any assigned task forces and attends meetings.

• Participates in Code Yellow.

• Performs any other related duties as assigned by the Senior Manager, Nursing Services, Administrator, Nursing Services and Director, Nursing Standards & Governance.
