To formulate clinical and organizational policies and procedures within the department and to ensure that staff are both aware and committed to them.
To plan annual staffing and equipment budget.
To prepare annual performance targets for the departments and to work within an agreed budget.
To control the rosters, work lists and leave arrangements for the department teams, ensuring an even distribution of leave throughout the year.
To be responsible for the administration of the hospital after normal working hours and on weekends and public holidays as rostered.
To organize all staff to meet the needs of the department making full use of flexi time and reporting staffing needs regularly to Nursing Administration.
To maintain staff discipline and to carry out staff performance appraisals.
To liaise with other Heads of Department and personnel to ensure that efficient and high standards of service are provided.
To ensure all charges are entered and processed correctly.
To keep Nursing Administration informed of significant changes or specific matters relating to staff and the departments.
To attend/conduct meetings to discuss departments’ operation, staff training needs and to formulate programs to improve these areas.
To be a role model for effective and disciplined teamwork through good communication and delegation.
To assist in the selection and appointment of staff.
Ability to guide and supervise co-workers.
Convey professional role model both in attitude and appearance.
